The island of wine’, as Andrea Bacci (the great wine specialist from Sant’Elpidio a Mare), wrote at the end of the 16th century about this region.
This is probably because Sardinia has a long and noble wine tradition, which starts in the 6th century B.C. thanks to the Phoenician’s presence, on the island territory. Though during the barbaric invasions, the wine production in Sardinia didn’t do so well at all.
Today, great quantities of excellent wines are produced, such as Vermentino di Sardegna, Primato Isola dei Nuraghi, Cannonau from Sardegna, Tanca Farrà , Vernaccia from Oristano, Nasco from Cagliari, Sardegna Semidano, Malvasia from Cagliari and many others.
