The agricultural estate of Montestigliano has been owned and run by the Donati family for over fifty years and is still today a working farm. Centrally located in the heart of Tuscany, perched high on a hill on the edge of the ‘Montagnola’, the farm commands magnificant views of the Senese landscape. Montestigliano is not only the perfect retreat but an ideal location to discover and explore the beauty of Tuscany. The immediate surroundings of the 2500 acre estate provide a glorious setting for walking or trekking through woodlands and meadows, a game of bocce under the shade of oak trees, bathing in the clear waters of the River Merse, a game of bocce under the shade of oak tress, painting amidst the olive groves or simply relaxing beside the pool. In the old granary you can enjoy traditional Tuscan suppers, learn to cook or savor the taste of a ‘grappa’ over a game of billiards. Nearby are facilities for tennis, horse riding, pottery and even hot air ballooning! Siena is only 12 km away, where twice a year the famous Palio (a medieval horse race) takes place. Florence is 80 km to the north and Grosseto and the Maremma coast 50 km to the south. The renown historic towns of San Gimignano, Pienza, Arezzo, Lucca, Cortona and Volterra are all within easy reach by car. ...In short Montestigliano has something for everyone! The accommodation is composed of a group of 18th century houses and buildings which have been carefully restored, retaining many of the original features common to Tuscan architecture, such as exposed beam ceilings, whitewashed walls and terracotta tiled floor. Houses are simple, no two apartments are alike, each has its own charm and character. They have been tastefully furnished and decorated and are self-contained with fully equipped kitchen, washing machine (the villa also has a dishwasher), iron, telephone, small electrical appliances are few as the voltage is limited. However we are sure that you will enjoy and appreciate what a special place Montestilgliano is and will savour a real taste of Tuscany!
